Moriah Harbour Cay National Park

Moriah Harbour Cay National Park is a beautiful natural preserve located just offshore in between Great Exuma and Little Exuma. Today, the park covers almost 23,000 acres and features some of the most pristine beaches in all of the Bahamas, including blue holes, dunes, and coral reefs.

Moriah Harbour Cay was designated as a Bahamas national park in 2002 after concern was raised in the mid-90s for the need to protect the land in this area and the borders of the park were expanded in 2015. As one of the Bahamas' newest parks, Moriah Harbour Cay National Park has only recently become more easily accessible to tourists through eco-tours offered by TT Watersports! You can explore parts of Moriah Harbour Cay by boat, but there are tons of sandbars and shallow waters throughout the park, as well as strict no-wake rules in place, so it’s best to explore this area via a kayak or SUP and with a local who knows the waterways very well.

Moriah Harbour Cay is unlike any other beach I’ve seen and we were blown away by its beauty! During my first visit to the Exumas, I had wanted to see Moriah Harbour but was unsure how to get around in that area, so I was so glad when I stumbled upon TT Watersports while I was planning out my second visit to the islands. If you're looking for an exciting way to experience this pristine ecosystem firsthand without disturbing its natural beauty or wildlife residents, then look no further than the tours offered by TT Watersports! They offer daily excursions into this protected area where visitors can enjoy the calm waters and natural beauty of the park while learning about the importance of the park - all while enjoying breathtaking views across varied landscapes. And if tours aren’t your thing you can rent kayaks and SUPs through TT Watersports as well - but I think you’ll love the tour, we sure did!

TT Watersports Eco-Tour of Moriah Harbour Cay

Departure times for the eco-tour range from 7am to 3pm depending on the tidal times that day. It’s best to carve out an entire day for this tour and explore the nearby beaches until the time of your tour. Our hotel was in Roker’s Point on Great Exuma so we drove down to Little Exuma that morning and checked out 3-4 beaches, had lunch at Tropic Breeze, then headed to the meeting point for our tour. TT herself will be in touch with you 1-2 days before your tour to confirm exactly what time your tour will depart. On the day of your tour, you’ll meet your guide at the boat ramp on the Great Exuma side of the Bridge of Exuma. TT Watersports provides all the necessary equipment for the tour, ensuring you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience throughout.

The tour begins with a quick warm-up so that your muscles are ready to paddle, then you’ll paddle through shallow waters next to the mangroves that line the shores of Moriah Harbour Cay. As you glide through the narrow channels, you'll have the opportunity to observe the unique wildlife that calls this place home. Keep your eyes peeled for colorful fish, curious turtles, and even the occasional stingray gracefully gliding beneath the water's surface. On the day of our tour, we saw a group of sea turtles darting around underneath us right off the bat!

Next, you'll find yourself surrounded by the unspoiled beauty of the sandbars. Here, you can disembark from the boat and explore these sandy havens with your guide and you’ll also walk through some of the mangrove areas feeling the different types of sand between your toes. Take photos along the way and keep a close eye out for the residents of Moriah Harbour - some blend in more than you think! We almost missed a couple of starfish lying on the bottom of the ocean floor because they blended in so well.

A highlight of the tour is the "Lazy River" experience, but before you float down the lazy river, you’ll explore a beautiful sandy beach with endless views of bright blue water. Head back to your kayak to leave anything you don’t want to lose and then it’s time for the lazy river! The current in the lazy river can be extremely strong, so if you plan on bringing a camera or Go-Pro with you, be sure the strap is tight around your wrist! I learned the hard way and became so relaxed on the lazy river that I accidentally let go and lost my Go-Pro, ha! As you float along the “lazy river”, you'll feel a sense of complete relaxation and harmony with nature. Let the warm waters carry you as you soak up the incredible surroundings and reflect on the wonders you've encountered during the day. It's the perfect opportunity to unwind and immerse yourself in the tranquil ambiance of Moriah Harbour Cay and it truly is an experience you won’t forget!
